Fabio Pires bs ollieing over Janne’s bbq at the premier
This past Saturday, Element premiered Yves Machon’s documentary of Janne Saario. The 20 minute film is now up on the Element Europe site for all to see. He’s quite a character, Janne, so this is 20 minutes well spent. The premiere event was also a session to open the new obstacles and the extension to the Suvilahti DIY park in Helsinki. For the two weeks running up to the premiere, Janne gave a workshop for architect students to learn a bit about shaping. For many architects, concrete is something you order from a catalog in definite shapes, not something that you sculpt on the spot. Out of the 12 participating students, most didn’t have any skating background, but they did a great job shaping. The leftover concrete was used by the local crew to build a platform and a couple of bits and bobs to extend the existing park. Have to say it’s a fucking rad park right now. And in fact, there’s a shitload of bricks and four tons of cement arriving today, so we can keep going with it.
