Flip

Founded in 1991, Flip is based in Huntington Beach, California and distributed globally by US company NHS Inc. It is co-owned by Jeremy Fox and professional skateboarder Geoff Rowley and produces hard goods such as decks, wheels and bearings, as well as clothing, DVDs and accessories. A leading innovator, Flip was one of the first deck companies to offer P2 (Pro 2) construction featuring an oval-shaped Kevlar fibre-reinforced maple veneer.

Originally based in the UK, Flip moved to the USA in July 1994 with a professional team featuring Rowley, Tom Penny, Rune Glifberg and Andy Scott. The current team includes Rowley, Penny and Glifberg, as well as stars including Arto Saari, Luan Oliveira, 2012 Thrasher Skater of the Year David Gonzales, Lance Mountain and Bob Burnquist, and ams such as 2012 Tampa Am champion Alec Majerus and UK rider Ben Nordberg.

In 2013, two new members were added to the pro team – Louie Lopez and Curren Caples. 18-year-old Lopez is an all-terrain ripper who already had seven years of am contests and videos under his belt, and he was quickly rewarded with a signature ‘Pinata’ deck, while the surf-influenced Caples was presented with his first ‘Mechano’ deck by surf legend Kelly Slater.

The first official Flip video was 2002’s Sorry, featuring Glifberg, Penny, Rowley and Saari, as well as Alex Chalmers, Ali Boulala, Mark Appleyard and Bastien Salabanzi. Really Sorry followed in 2003, starring PJ Ladd, and the third episode in the trilogy – Extremely Sorry – was released in 2009.
