Amsterdamn AM

The perennially popular Amsterdamn AM is Europe’s premiere amateur street skateboarding competition, held each July at the incredible Skatepark Amsterdam in the city’s docklands area. It is part of the Damn Am amateur skateboarding contest series started in 2001 by Skatepark of Tampa and the creators of the Tampa Am, and has become unmissable for those who want to spot the next big thing in European skating.

First staged in 2006, top talent from across the continent and the US are attracted to the Amsterdamn AM by an big overall prize purse (€10,000 in 2013), as well as the amazing location in one of the world’s most exciting cities and one of Europe’s best skate parks. For the best riders, there are also qualifications on offer for the following year’s prestigious Tampa Am.

19-year-old Dutchman Nassim Guammaz emerged triumphant from the the eighth edition in 2013, taking home a cheque for €2,500. He was incredibly consistent over the entire weekend, landing his nosegrind on each and every try, and also showing off an incredible highspeed backside lipslide on lock. Jorge Simões from Portugal took second place, with American Trevor Colden rounding out the podium places. Nassim and Jorge qualified automatically for the 2014 Tampa Am semi-finals.

Over in the always-wild Best Trick competition, Youness Amrani from Belgium took top honours with a Feeble Grind to Treflip out. Riso Tury’s Heelflip Noseslide Nollieflip off landed him second place while Rob Maatman finished third with a Nollie Bigspin to Frontside Boardslide.
