Jussi Toropainen, Lärvi for short, has a new section out in Lurkki’s SLP project. The text below is from his check out in Kingpin 82 a couple of months back. Jussi’s in a rock’n'roll band. Sick right?
Jussi Toropainen is quite possibly the slowest man in Finland. Not the laziest, just the slowest. Meaning he’s constantly getting shit sorted, but he takes his time doing it. He’ll be going to bed around midnight, sees his guitar in the corner. Hmm. Maybe just a couple of chords? Jussi’s in a metal band. He won’t be going to bed for another few hours now, practicing his riffs instead. In the afternoon he’s just about to leave the flat, go skate. Wallet, keys, phone…his brain registers the Mocca Master on the kitchen top. Hmm. Maybe just a cup? There we go, he won’t be going anywhere for a couple of more hours. Phone’s ringing, dudes are waiting, session’s going stale. Where the hell is he? Chilling, mate. Sun’s going down, Jussi’s leaving the flat. Shows up at the spot. You guys skating- or what? The past few months Jussi’s been getting a taste of adult life, holding down a job for the first time in his life. Mandatory one, hard to lose government issue, 13 month gig. Jussi’s tucked away in storage, filing theses, archiving memos. Trouble is the world won’t bend to his routine. Archives run office hours. Jussi’s hours aren’t exactly office. He’s a freer spirit than that. Plays the guitar. Drinks the coffee. Skates.
Jussi Toropainen is 20 years old. He lives and “works” in Helsinki, Finland, and rides for Perus Skateboards, Nike SB Finland, Carhartt and Grey Market Supply skate shop.
