The trouble with being a Victim

Skating has always been concerned with image; anyone who tells you different is lying. You think that the pool punks’ look is just thrown together? Nonsense. The punks are the most image conscious of the lot. There is absolutely nothing wrong with sharp young men like yourselves being aware of your appearance; where it tends to go off the rails is in following blindly into the advertiser’s trap of thinking that buying like our heroes will make us be like our heroes. Personally, I don’t blame the riders. If I was painting myself all over the concrete trying to make ends meet and avoid real life, I would have an action figure with its own hair dye and designer sunglasses, too- but I wouldn’t expect skaters with anything between their ears to take it seriously. So decide for yourself whats cool before the corrosion of conformity has you ragga rolling your jean leg up even though you have no idea why (how soon we forget!). This goes for boards too. Many many brands take whatever sells well for others as their starting point, so sing it with me brothers: “Shape is more important than graphic, shape is more important than graphic.”
