Hjalte Halberg

Danish skater Hjalte Halberg was part of the Enjoi flow team before joining up with Carhartt, Copenhagen’s Street Machine skate shop, Independent and Nike SB. He had a killer year in 2012, picking up a pro sponsorship deal with Pontus Alv’s Polar Skate Co, and also putting out a number of solid video parts, including an eight-minute Polar promo.

Among his other video releases are a 2010 Carhartt video ad filmed and edited by Henrik Edelbo, the independently-released Vores KBH (‘our Copenhagen’), and a Nike SB film set in China. Together with Alv and Michał Juraś, he also featured in a Polar team montage entitled ‘The Sect’, part of the 2012 independent film from Poland Grey Area.

Hjalte was born in Copenhagen on 12th July 1987, and is still based in the city. Although he is often described as ‘the face of Danish street-skating’, he says that he never imagined it would be possible to support himself financially with his skating, and his elevation to pro status took him completely by surprise – he still works for two days a week as a substitute teacher, and recently took four months out to sail from Spain to New York with a friend.

Despite his extracurricular activities, Hjalte probably spends more time on his skateboard than anyone else in Copenhagen – he is so bursting with energy that some might say he verges on ADHD. His style, involving fast skating, manuals and ledge tricks, is perfectly suited to videomaking, with photos a touch harder for him to put together.
