Madars Apse

Skater extraordinaire Madars Apse is sponsored by Element, DC Shoes, Independent, Mosaic Bearings and Perus Wheels, and is also one of very few Latvian athletes sponsored by Red Bull. Madars has competed at Simple Session many times, taking the title in 2003, and has also ranked highly in the POP! Session contests.

In 2008, he finished sixth in the Street contest at the AmsterDamn Am, and third in the Street Best Trick competition. He followed this with a second place finish at the first ever Vans Downtown Countdown in 2009. He has also made a series of killer video parts, featuring in films such as Element’s Get Busy Living and Future Nature, as well as DC Europe’s first-ever full-length video Where EU At? and Vans’ 1966.

Madars was born on 19th November 1989 in the Latvian town of Ventspils. He has been addicted to skateboarding since the age of 12, and quickly made a name for himself, picking up a sponsorship deal with Riga’s boards.lv skateshop just two years later and winning national and international contests. He currently divides his time between London and Barcelona.

His philosophy of life is ‘do whatever you feel like, and see what comes out’ and it is easy to see that attitude in action in his parts which feature an array of jaw-dropping tricks. Add exceptional board control, an incredible pop and a uniquely creative mind to the mix, and it is easy to see why he was named European Skater of the Year for 2012.
