Mark Gonzales

American Mark Gonzales is one of the few undisputed legends of the sport, and after 30 years of skateboarding, is still as unpredictable as ever – trying to anticipate his next move is next to impossible. Off the board, he is also the man behind a series of skateboarding companies, including the Deluxe Distribution division Krooked, and he is currently a pro for Krooked, Adidas, Independent and Spitfire.

Over the years, he has appeared in many great videos, including Khronicles (2006), Gnar Gnar (2007), Naugty (2008) and Krook3d (2010), all for Krooked. He has also featured in a number of videos by Blind, Real, Fourstar and Adidas, as well as the 2012 documentary We Are Skateboarders, alongside legends such as Lance Mountain and Rob Dyrdek.

Of Mexican descent, The Gonz was born in South Gate, California on 1st June 1968. He first entered the skateboarding world at the age of 13, and by the age of 16 he had featured on the cover of Thrasher, riding an Alva board. He soon switched to Vision, where he graduated to pro status and won the 1985 Oceanside street contest.

He is often described as the greatest skateboarder of all time, and even more often as the most influential, and is undoubtedly a true pioneer of modern street skateboarding. He has a long list of famous tricks – including an ollie across the Wallenberg Set, a four-block, nineteen feet-long, four feet-tall gap in San Francisco – but says he has never been able to learn to do 540s and 900s.
