April 29, 2013, Los Angeles – Singer-guitarist Ben Harper is helping to raise money for the family of Australian pro skateboarder Lewis Marnell, whose untimely death in January at the age of 30 left his family in dire financial straights. A lifelong skateboarding enthusiast and friend to skaters around the world, Harper has reunited with the Innocent Criminals for the first time since 2007 to re-record the song “Jah Work” from his 1997 album, “The Will to Live.” The song is now available on iTunes, with all proceeds going to the Lewis Marnell family memorial fund.

“Lewis was a brilliant artist and athlete not to mention a truly beautiful soul. We loved him and his contributions to skating, and we thought a song would be a wonderful way to celebrate his life and help his family.” said Harper.

Marnell died Jan. 18 from complications of diabetes, a disease he lived with from the age of 10. He did not allow his condition to impede his meteoric skateboarding career. He skated with such passion and style that can’t be replicated, he made all his tricks look effortless and his love for life was infectious. In 2008 he made his mark when he went pro for Almost Skateboards and he was named Skater of the Year from Australian skateboarding magazine slam. Marnell got married in late 2012, and died only a few months later, leaving his family with a large debt. Global efforts to help the family financially ensued, with Harper’s being the latest.

When I found this floating I was in two minds about posting it. On the one hand Sidewalk are releasing parts every week and I don’t want to piss them off, on the other I didn’t upload it myself, it’s not a very good quality rip so people will still want to watch it when it’s uploaded properly and I’m sure it won’t be up there for very long so fuck it. Why won’t anyone hook Tommy Finn and Dennis Durant up properly?

I don’t think I’ve ever come across a Passport clip I didn’t enjoy, they seem to get it right every single time. This introductory clip for Josh Pall is no exception. It’s sick that they always put a bunch of friends in there too, it gives us a chances to see some Callum Paul footage!

As I was browsing through their website I also stumbled across this little edit. I hadn’t seen it before and thought you guys might enjoy it.

This thing is pretty entertaining. I love how the main “skate menace” is supposed to be a semi-professional skateboarder but can barely kickturn. I’m not surprised he takes that gnarly slam at the beginning, he’d probably eat shit even if the train wasn’t moving… That beautiful anchorwoman remains the best thing about the clip though.

Remember that short edit of  Tom Knox on the East London line? At least he was actually doing tricks, he even tailslides a seat!

This is taken from Australian video Slice of Life that came out last year. It makes you quite jealous of how easily some people manage to hop onto tall ledges. Especially when this magical levitation seems effortless. It’s quit shocking how this hulk of a man smoothly glides through a kick flip back smith or floats a front shove over a bump to bar. Good Stuff.
