As far as Canadian skate videos go, the Green Apple ones have definitely always been up there with the “North” series. It’s funny how the whole editing unrelated incidental footage into skate edits thing they pioneered has become so popular now…
Their old videos Modern Love and Supper’s Ready are classics, if you’ve never heard of them then you’ve got some serious catching up to do. The sections I’ve posted below should give you a good idea of what all the fuss is about.

As far as skate videos go, the Dimestore ones are probably as sick as they get. The comical dimension is at least as entertaining as the skating and with parts from guys like Charles Rivard or Antoine Asselin, that says a lot. Just like in their previous videos, Dime Turd Season transports you to the grimy streets Montreal with its crackheads and street fights, whilst staying loyal to their trademark recurring images and their unpredictable soundtracks. It just goes to show that the best skate videos come from the guys who don’t take themselves too seriously, no matter how talented they are.

I’m glad to hear Russ Milligan has found a new shoe sponsor, but doesn’t he live in SF? Hasn’t he been pro for an American board company for a while now? He’s been putting out incredible parts for the last 10 years, surely he’s past the stage of being on the Canadian team.

Through this short film Adam Bos has chosen to share 2 very important aspects of his brother’s life with us. The first one is Josh Bos’ Skateboarding. It’s spontaneous yet powerful and controlled and Adam does a very good job capturing this with his VX. The other is Josh’s daily struggle with OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) that he chose to portray via very short incidental 8mm and 16mm sequences. The combination of these three formats turns out to be a very effective way of reminding us that whatever goes on in our subconscious influences our skateboarding in one way or another.

A few weeks ago Quicksilver released a short clip of this guy. I remember getting the impression that he had an interesting style and a good trick trick selection, but is was only a two minute clip, so not really enough to fully convince me… Luckily, his full part in the latest Studio Skateboards video confirmed my first impression, and I’m definitely going to be keeping an eye out for him! His section is full of fakie tricks, switch back smiths and cool looking spots. He doesn’t do any over-the-top tech crap and his style even reminds me a little bit of David Clark’s. Yeah, I’d say he’s a David Clark with looser trucks and a thing for fakie tricks!

If you enjoyed this and have a bit of free time ahead of you, I recommend you watch the whole video, some of the others parts are also really sick.

1611 East Teaser

Vancouver’s 1611 East is scheduled to drop some time this winter. Apparently we should expect footage from Bryan Wherry, Joey Williams, Ian Twa, Cameo Wilson, Wade Desarmo, Zander Mitchell, Beaster Bandula, Spencer Hamilton and loads more. Sounds sick. The way the trailer is edited reminds me a little of those Green Apple videos that Bryan Wherry and Joey Williams were in. Modern Love and Supper’s Ready are hands down my favorite Canadian videos of all time, and somehow I’ve got a feeling that this one could be up there with them when it comes out. It’s weird how it takes so little for me to get my hopes up…

Sign the petition against Nova Scotia’s absurd helmet laws.

Nova Scotia, one of Canada’s maritime provinces seems to have the most absurd skateboard-related legislation to this day. Skateboarders have to wear helmets at all times or expose themselves to the risk of being fined. By “at all times” I mean whether it’s in a skatepark or just skating down the road to buy some milk. No need to explain what a law like this can do to a skate scene, you get the idea. To sign the petition and get a bit more information about this whole story, click here.

I’m glad I found this little gem on Bobgnarly’s youtube account, this guy is sick! I watched it three times in a row… Bobby if you are out there somewhere, thanks, this Canadian’s skating got me stoked.
