Jenkem, one of our favorite skate blogs, has just posted an interesting reply to my article entitled “How is the internet changing the way we appreciate skate videos?”

I’m glad someone noticed that I was getting a little carried away… I guess watching videos all day really gets to you!

On the other hand, I’m still convinced that the mass-proliferation of skate videos via the internet makes it harder for us to enjoy the good stuff, simply because of how it’s diluted. That’s why we recently created a “Top 5 edits of the month” section, hoping it would help support the parts/edits we don’t want to see labelled “just another web clip” and forgotten.

Anyway, what do you guys think? How is the internet changing the way we appreciate skate videos?

(Okay I kind of lied in the title, it’s not really a proper website ,just a tumblr but his work still looks amazing though…)

Since we are going to find out very soon who this year’s European Skater Of The Year is, it seemed like a good idea to remind you that Lucas Puig won the award in 2011, setting a very high standard for the years to come… Here is his interview that came out in issue 99 after the results were announced : 2011 was one busy year for him.

How was your year in 2011?

It was a really good year, pretty intense though! Full of new projects, Adidas, Hélas, and a lot of trips too… Actually it was cool to have to work on some new stuff, it keeps the motivation up!

When did you realise you were up for an award?

I didn’t notice until when someone tagged me on facebook…

What was your reaction?

I was like, “damn!!!” When I saw the list, I just

said to myself, “There are so many good skaters in Europe…”

Did you imagine you might win? Does that matter to you?

Actually not at all, I mean I didn’t really think about it. But, yes, I have to say, I’m pretty stoked!

What do you think helped you to win?

Adidas, Cliché, Transworld… Good People!!! Merci!

Do you think Europe needs its own skater of the year?

For sure, it’s a good thing! There are so many skaters in Europe, a lot of companies as well. The euro industry is pretty big, so, yes, it was good to make it happen!!!

Who else should have been on the list?

It’s too hard to think about someone, a lot of skaters deserve to be on the list… But there are

a lot of good skaters in Europe, that’s for sure!!!

Who would have been your pick for skater of the year?

I would say Youness Amrani. We skated together when I was in L.A, for the Skate & Create, he killed it! Watching him skate in the real life is awesome, he’s really talented – he’s a good person too.

How come you didn’t manage to make the awards?

I was on a trip in Barcelona trying to shoot a cover for this issue with Nikwen the week before the awards. We stayed in an apartment with no heater and an open window… I was sick as fuck after a couple days – I got the worst cold ever!!! We still tried to shoot photos, but illness rain and cops made it kind of impossible…

What do you have in store for the next year?

We have to film for the next Cliché video. I have a trip in Australia with Adidas planned for March, and I’ll also be working on Hélas. I’ll try to post some clips on the internet as often as possible. I just bought my own camera, so I can film with my homies when I’m in Toulouse. I got into Final Cut too, it’s become my new friend… Editing is pretty insane!

Do you think we’ll see you in the line up next year?

We’ll see, but let’s keep an eye out for the young wolves. It’s gonna be a heavy year for the Europeans…

We at Kingpin are aware of how perfect this number is and would like to thank all those who have stuck it out to bring home the full 10 – and helped us create one of the best web series going to boot.
It could be anyone we feature, from your favourite pro, to that dude who rips it up down your local park; as long as the tricks are rad enough we’ll consider it.
It’s been going on for a while now and I’m yet to hear a bad word about it so to celebrate that fact we’ve lined up a whole bunch of 10 Tricks for you to get stoked on.

Good to see this chap back on his board! Kilian had a rough time last year, collapsing at a comp and requiring brain surgery after a severe cerebral hemorrhage. Looks like you can’t keep a good man down though, and heres a styley ten for Reell as proof.
