DTSD Coming To London – Jack The Ripper-Style

Only few more days to go until Vans Downtown Showdown kicks off in London on August 20th. Twelve of Europe’s sickest skate teams will be battling it out on London themed, team-customized ramps, to get their hands on the 50.000 Euros purse.It’s easy to see Old Spitalfields Market will be the place to be that day, not only for the kick-ass skating, but also for Vans legends Alva, Rowley, AVE, Dollin plus hot shit Pfanner coming in to witness the ripping.
Talking of ripping, the whole event will be inspired by historic London themes, such as that of Jack the Ripper.
The chosen ramp designs for this year’s comp were handed in by Superdead, Cliché and Death, so prepare for some innovative set-ups and tricked out special features on the course.
As Superdad’s Harry put it: “The Superdead obstacle – The Superdead Tavern, a ‘ye olde English pub’ with a twist – contains trap doors, bars and beer barrels its what every good skate spot needs… London is steeped in history and it became easy to add a heavy flavour of that history into our design.“
And Death’s Dan Cates explains: „This years Death obstacle is a tribute to London’s most notorious serial killer, ‘Jack The Ripper’ and is loosely based upon Gunthorpe Street in Whitechapel. A spooky looking alleyway that still stands today leading to George yard where some claim that the first of The Ripper’s victims was found. Death’s obstacle is a skateable interpretation of this Alley in all of it’s Victorian beauty, complete with blood stains, filth, Ripper graffiti and a rideable version of the infamous ‘Ten Bells’ pub, complete with cellar door.“

Adriatic Texture

Nike SB’s Italian dudes (plus special guests) searched their beautiful lands for shreddable texture. Milano and the Adriatic coast were their destination and what they brought home looks pretty rad. Good crew it seems, nice mix, sick tricks.

Final session at one of Germany’s most legendary street spots, the plaza infront of the dome of Collogne! Last chance to dance, before the ultimate skate-stoppage. – Tears were shed.

Then, next day, opening of Collognes’s new hot spot, the skate plaza by the river Rhine. – Sure not a match, but looking sick aswell!

Cleptomanicx Premiering “Rollen Aaller 3″

Hamburg St-Pauli was the place to be on late Saturday night. Cleptomanicx, Germany’s witty clothing company with a faible for all things nautic, celebrated the premier of its third video installement, “Rollen Aaller 3″. The festivities took place at well-known St-Pauli night life location, the “Übel & Gefährlich”, built into an old WWII bunker. Everyone and their mom came out, to see the action and shake to tunes.

The video itself carries on the legacy of slightly wierd, yet strikingly sick videos put out by clepto since the brand was founded in 1992. All the team – Tjark Thielker, Dennis Laass, David Conrads, Lennie Burmeister and Niklas Speer v. Cappeln – comes out strong, doing some qulity ripping with a lot of unforseen moves and creative skating. Even a few gems of all-time German legend, Jan Waage got captured and thrown into the mix.

Leading through the film is Captain Clepto, Cleptomanicx living mascot and good soul, sailing the Clepto ship through Hamburg’s harbour with the skaters stepping in for cameos – sounds cheese, but comes off legit, especially if you’re German speaking.

Editing in this one is slightly off-standard and it takes a while to get used to. However, who would want the standard stuff…

Good shit, aal(!) the way through!

Check it out if you get the chance to and pay attention to bonus stuff to be dropping somewhere – as I know for a fact, there must be tons of hillarious bits that didn’t make the cut.

Germany’s Monster Mag To Hit 300!

Dudes over at Skateboard MSM are getting ready for the big one: 300th issue coming up, to be released at Bright next week. This is history in the making! The first ever mag I held in hands was a Monster, a long, long time ago. Monster has been going steady since 1982, bringing quality skating from all over and from domestic hot-spots far and wide to the sternmost village of the German speaking lands.
Celebrating the 300 some raging festivities will go down at Skatehalle Berlin/Cassiopeia night club on 8th of July, including a cash for tricks session at the Betonhausen DIY-spot, various video premieres and a massive party. If you happen to be in town for Bright, mark the date and make sure to be there!

Deberdt And Gonz Join For “Le Cercle”

A little while back, the Gonz paid yet another visit to the city of love, Paris. This time around he devoted his time to rolling of a very special kind: on the circle board, made out of nine set-ups attached to each other! And photographer extraordinaire, Benjamin Deberdt came along to cover the magic.
While the Gonz was spinning the wheel and Deberdt was snapping away, the two traveled along Paris’ famous sites.
Benjamin’s prints from that session then were sent off to New York, where Mark sat down and tagged them with his unmistakeable brand of drawings and poetry.

The outcome is now available as a book by Izrock Pressings. Plus, the artworks are currently on exhibition at La Gaîté Lyrique, Paris and the official launch and signing will be held there on Wednesday 22nd June.

Zoo York Mixtape – A Mid-90′s Masterpiece

Seems like today it’s retro day on the KP site… here for an all analog flashback to the mid nineties, some OG street skating: Zoo York’s Mixtape! Skating and music so real and raw, it’ll bring tears to your eyes if you’ve been around during those times. If not, you might be shrugging your shoulders in disbelief. Either way. This is a sick testimony of its time. If you’re feeling the vibe and want some more insights to how rad of a piece this really is, have a look at A Visual Sound’s researches on the musical side (from KP 65(?)).
