Mark Suciu has been unstoppable for months now. It seems like every week some new insane footage of him hits the web. It probably sounds hard to believe but his Sabotage 3 part is at least as good if not better than this, so if you still haven’t seen it I suggest you buy yourself a copy of the video here. How is this kid still am?

For some reason, I thought 2013 was going to be different. Somehow I had hope. But it all came crashing down sooner than I expected. It’s funny though, I was convinced that next time something this bad was going to hit the web it would at least be instigated by the dream team. I guess I was naive to have thought they were our only threat.

This time the attack came from someone we could never have suspected. The name “Flo-Rida” suggests for one thing, that he might have “flow” and might be able to “ride”, but how on earth can anybody  think that it’d be good marketing for this overweight RnB singer to be squeezed into pink cut-offs and wobbling around on a long board?

How is that, in any sense of the word, “cool”, am I that out of the loop?

He can barely even stand on it! On top of that, they had to make the two worst associations they possibly could. Indeed, they make our chubby friend skydive moments after having tick-tacked his way along the beach, neatly plonking us in the same basket as all those other “extreme sports”. The scene of him roller-blading next to his mongo-pushing friend is just the nail in the coffin.

Skateboarding, rollerblading, skydyving, they are kind of all the same thing right? Makes me not want to be a part of any of them…

Even this was wasn’t as painful to see, because as a skater you know that there’s a 90% chance that she rolled her ankle. And at least she is dressed (definitely NSFW)…

If anyone knows of a better illustration of skateboarding being raped post it, I’ll throw in a Kingpin shirt if I think it beats this…

The monthlong festival will include photo exhibitions, a lecture series, movie screenings and a participatory skateboard happening all free and open to the public.

NYC|C is a part of the Plan12 Architecture Biennale in Cologne for which artist Alexander Basile and Oliver Tielsch are turning ten billboards throughout the city into art-locations within the public space. The billboards will showcase works by photographers Todd Jordan, Jonathan Mehring, Mike O’Meally, Giovanni Reda, Gerhard Stochl and Charlie Samuels, depicting New York City’s skateboarding scene in its architectural surroundings between 1989 and 2010.

The focal point of NYC|C is Basile’s gallery SSZ SUED which will premier the exhibition “Around A Town (eine Nacherzählung)” by Johannes Wohnseifer. This selection of photographs depicts Backworlds/Forwords, a performance project conceived by Wohnseifer in collaboration with artist and skateboarder Mark Gonzales at the Museum Abteiberg in Mönchengladbach, Germany in 1998.

As part of the exhibition, a lecture series by urban planners and researchers will the held in combination with screenings of films by RB Umali, Larry Clark, Pontus Alv and others.

Naturally, some actual skateboarding will take place as well. On September 23, Basile and Tielsch are inviting the public to a special New York City-themed version of Cologne’s annual skateboarding race at KAP686 skateplaza.

Flip Skateboards, Palace, Blueprint and Antiz are the lucky few that got to bring their designs to life this year and they will all be there to session the shit out of the obstacles and try to claim their piece of the €50,000 prize purse.

This issue is all about one of the rawest and raddest aspects of skateboarding: DIY.

Set in Stone is a DIY project we concocted with Carhartt & Emerica. A select, yet eclectic crew, set about visiting half-finished DIY spots throughout Europe, lending a hand pouring ‘crete, sampling their local brews and, of course, getting some serious skating done too.

Each stop of Set in Stone has its own article and sick edit and the videos start dropping one-a-week for a month as of the 31st of January, so stay tuned!

Each of the stops on our mission from last summer (Berlin, Germany; Brescia, Italy, Sheffield, England and Helsinki, Finland) was a blast and we met some of the raddest dudes out there. Thanks to them all.

There’s plenty more in this issue too, we also feature some of the the raddest home-builds out there, speak to the guys who know best and also some basic knowledge about how to DO IT YOURSELF. Get inspired.
