I don’t know how they do it, but some skaters seem to be completely oblivious to their culture’s trends. We can all agree that this gives their skating a bit of an edge, at least when it isn’t put on. Sadly most of them are usually trying to make some kind of statement. They choose to do the least fashionable tricks hoping it’ll be enough to make them stand out. But there’s a lot more to originality than doing weird tricks, you have to at least put a little thought into what you put out. Different does not have to mean stinking. Luckily they aren’t all like this, and it’s the genuine rawness and originality that I particularly appreciate in Ben Krahn’s skating. That and the fact that he can do switch crail stalls on massive quarters.
