In this month’s Kingpin, you’ll find a story about team Titus venturing north to Stockholm. Vladik was in great form, skated loads, looked good – but didn’t shoot much. Struck me as one of those skaters who’ve got all the style and skills, and choose to use them to have fun and to look good on a skateboard rather than stress about how much coverage they get. On our last day of the trip, he started to feel a bit of pressure about not really getting any photos yet, so despite the rain and the cold, he started chucking himself down the Slussen nine stair rail. he did his warm up trick while I was still setting up and started casually trying the next one, when he missed the rail and landed on his ribs with his arm wedged in between his body and the floor. I think he cracked a rib or two by the sound of it. They’re funny things, ribs. When you realize you’ve broken one, you start asking around and it turns out half your friends have done that. It takes a long time to recover and it’s pretty painful from the start. You can’t do anything – in fact all you have to do is nothing at all. For a couple of weeks. Anyway, back to Slussen, Vladik is lying on the ground, in agony, thinking shit, that’s the photo gone. We start shooting something else with Wilko, but after a while Vladik gets up to ask if I’d shoot the warm up trick, if he manages to jump on the rail one more time. Well, I’ll shoot it for sure, but I wouldn’t jump if I were you, Vladik. You already did the trick, don’t break yourself to do it again with a cracked ribcage. He did though, and we did shoot it. A nice front feeble on a nasty steep rail under cover, in the rain and cold. We didn’t use that photo in the article, we used a sequence that I think Vladik didn’t even think much of, but that to us seemed like a good trick on a pretty unique spot. Chances are that the fs feebs will turn up somewhere later on though, so now you know the story if you ever see the photo.
Below Vladik’s part from the recent Rockers video, where he jumps down shit like there’s no tomorrow. That nose bonk towards the end. And the last trick. Hope that rib’s feeling better!
